Merson in the Daily Mail

There is a full page interview with Paul Merson in the Daily Mail today about his departure from Walsall.

Points of interest in the interview:

"Walsall offered him the chance to walk away by 'mutual agreement'. I told them it was OK to sack me if thats what they wanted"

"I have an exciting project ahead called The Virtual Soccer Academy ... Filming starts next week and its released on May 1st. There is an interest from quite a few clubs. Ive invested money in this. That will keep me active at the moment" - This statement comes as a surprise as the club indicated that the club owned the rights to this but i think its a joint venture between Jeff Bonser and Paul Merson.

"My fault. Blame me. No team of mine should lose 5-0. never. I prepare the players, I pick the team, I am the manager. Or at least i was the manager. Im not bitter, im not angry. It was painful hearing the fans booing, but that comes with the teritory" - Its good to see him not giving excuses.  It shows he has learnt from his time in management.

"Merson wants another crack at management, but, at 38 next month he would settle for a playing contract ...Im two weeks away from full fitness and then I'd like to go and play wherever someone wants me. I dont care what level. I just love football"

He comes across well in the interview and sounds like he just knows he has to keep himself active to keep away his demons.
