Merson does the sensible thing - RE Gillingham next week!

Paul Merson has stated that Paul Smith will NOT be allowed to play for Gillingham against us next week. Since Smith departed it has been a hotly discussed topic by Saddlers fans, will he or wont he? However, Merson has confirmed there is nothing to worry about!! This season Walsall players who have been loaned out have all been allowed to become cup tied, so this fuelled the debate whether Smith would be allowed to line up against us or not. It seems almost certain that Smith will be signing a full time deal with Gillingham on January 1st, so maybe the terms of the loan deal he may have been allowed him to play for them?. Well, under League rules it is up to the Football league clubs to decide if a player can play against 'his' team while out on loan. In the Premiership however it is forbidden.

Gillingham today lost to Burscough in the FA cup 1st round. They were reduced to ten men but lead 2-1 with two mins to go, only for the hosts to score twice!!!
