"We get a weekly report on Paul's progress and the last one was excellent, saying he's responding to the treatment and they were very pleased with his progress.
"So there's a possibility he could be back with us at the end of the next two weeks and it looks like it could happen.
"The thing with Paul Merson is that he doesn't have to train flat out all the time and although it's something we'll review when he gets back, I can't see Paul needing a mini pre-season when he gets back."
