Carl started officiating in 1992 and progressed through the league ladder before being promoted to The Football League assistant referees list in 1996 and the Premier League list in 2000. He was promoted to The Football League referees list in 2002. Carl refereed an FA Vase semi-final 2nd leg in 2001 and was Fourth Official at the FA County Youth Cup Final in 2002.
This season he has officiated 25 games including League One, Two, Fa Cup and LDV games. He has shown 73 yellow cards and 11 red cards. It will be the first time he has refereed either Walsall or Tranmere this season.
