Booth started refereeing in 1985 in the Central Midland and Contributory Leagues. He progressed to the national list of assistant referees before being promoted to the referees list in 2004. He was an assistant referee in the 2003 Worthington Cup Semi Final.
This season he has taken charge of 27 games in which he has dished out 71 yellow cards and 4 red cards. Booth took charge of Walsalls 3-1 away victory at Scunthorpe back in September. During that game he showed 5 yellow cards and 1 red. Craig Pead, Simon Osborn and Matty Fryatt were the Walsall players cautioned on that day.
