Butler turned down higher division clubs (believed to be Southend and Chesterfield), for a Bescot return. After signing, the player spoke about how he was impressed by the way Richard Money sold the club to him. He described Walsall as a club entering an exciting era and one expected to mount a serious promotion push this season. Martin also spoke about how pleased he is to be a part of the new era.
