Lancashire worry for Saddlers

Oliver Lancashire is Walsall`s only injury concern ahead of the visit of Tranmere in the Carling Cup first round. The centre-back was replaced in the 90th minute of Saturday`s opening-day 2-1 defeat to MK Dons nursing a thigh strain and will be assessed over the next 24 hours. Should he not make it then Clayton McDonald, who took his place at the weekend, would likely partner Manny Smith at the back. The Saddlers were disappointing against Dons and manager Chris Hutchings is looking for a much-improved performance on Tuesday as the club look to progress past the opening round of the League Cup for only the second time in seven seasons. Walsall missed the presence of star striker Troy Deeney following his move to Watford and a replacement is unlikely to be in before the visit of Rovers, with Hutchings stressing he will make sure the recruitment process is completed "wisely and correctly".
