Jorge - 'I WOULD HAVE STAYED'

Last updated : 16 April 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Jorge Leitao speaking in the Sunday Mercury said he would have stayed at Bescot until the end of the season if asked.

His desire was to return to Portugal, but he would have put this off until the summer to lessen the loss of strike partner Matty Fryatt.

He talks about how sad he is to see the position Walsall are in and how he hopes we will avoid the drop. Jorge said he feels Walsall should be pushing for promotion rather than fighting against relegation.

He said his reason for leaving was not a football one but of a personal nature. He was homesick and needed to return home.

He said maybe if he stayed we wouldn't be where we are now. He left a few days before Matty Fryatt's departure to Leicester, had it been the other way round he would have stayed.

You will never find a more committed foreign player than Jorge. He never spoke out in the press or gave us any problems, he was just Mr. Walsall.
