Is the Smith to Gillingham move still on?

It was presumed that the loan move that took Paul Smith back to Gillingham would become a permanent on January 1st 1006 when the transfer window re-opens. Doubt however has been cast this week over comments made by Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson and actions by the player himself.

Paul Smith ruled himself out of selection for the game agaist Bournemouth last time out. His reason was so he did not pick up an injury. This would either mean he was protecting his up coming move or that he will need to be fit in January to attract a new club to join, so he can avoid the long commute to Walsall from his Kent home.

Walsall do not need him back and his route to the first team is now harder than what it was when he left. Daniel Fox has shown the potential he has in filling a central midfield role. Daniel is moch move mobile than Smith and is fierce in the tackle.

Ronnie Jepson has been quoted saying that the deal was not done by himself and that he knows nothing about the deal. This does not sound like the comments of a manger who wants to keep the player. If he wanted to then he would be saying that the deal was done and dusted and he will be staying.

The return of Paul Smith has not been recieved well by Gillingham fans and i think their fans would be pleased to see him return to Walsall once his loan has ended. Walsall fans do not want to see Smith return either.
