Gerrard ruled out of Scunthorpe match

Last updated : 06 February 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Anthony Gerrard picked up his 5th booking on Saturday and will join Michael Leary on the suspended list. Gerrards absence will come as a huge blow to Walsall because fellow central defender Chris Westwood limped out of action with a ankle injury at half time against Brentford. Westwood has been having injections before the last 3 games but now looks likely to be ruled out. Ian Roper is still on the injured list so only Scott Dann is available for selection for the visit of Scunthorpe.

Appearances 26 (* + 3 as sub); Goals 0; Yellow cards 5; Red cards 0

Its a ruling that the FA should have a look at.  Gerrard has taken part in 29 games this season.  Five yellow cards is since August is hardly the behaviour of a player who should recieve a suspension, its an average of one yellow card in just under six games!

With the financial constraints in football and smaller squads (OK not us!!!), This ruling is hardly in the interest of the fans.
