Gerrard hands in a transfer request

Anthony Gerrard has today stunned Walsall fans by handing in a written transfer request. This request has apparently been accepted, and details of the request has been made available to all Premier, Football, and Scottish league clubs.

Gerrard has been virtually an ever-present in the Walsall team since initially joining on loan from Everton in March 2005, and after making a permanent move at the end of the 2004/2005 season, despite suffering with niggling injuries, Gerrard was instrumental in the securing of the League 2 championship in 2006/2007.

The news will come as a major blow to Jimmy Mullen and Walsall fans, both due to the lack of depth in defence and the closeness of the transfer deadline. The signing of one defender must now be of paramount importance before the window closes on Monday.

Chairman Jeff Bonser revealed in the press statement that we turned down an offer for Gerrard last week from an unnamed Championship club, and he has also stated that he will only consider offers from Championship and Premier League clubs.
