Gannon on Walsall encounter

After a weekend to gather his thoughts Notts County's John Gannon gave his clubs's official website www.nottscountyfc.co.uk reflection.

"All the results seemed to go our way on Saturday, which does make it even more disappointing for us because if we had won we would have been smack-bang in there," said Gannon.

"Unfortunately we didn't win, but our absolutely magnificent performance deserved so much more.

"They had two shots on goal which results in two goals, but for all our crosses, shots and pressure we couldn't find enough."

A key moment in the eyes of Gannon was the lack of decision from Referee Mr Friend when Andy Parkinson was brought down when advancing in on goal midway through the second half under a challenge from Chris Westwood.

"There were a few key moments in the game, but for me the key moment was when Parkinson was clear on goal in the second half, and he was taken out.

"You don't go down in situations like that and Parkinson isn't that kind of player, and in my mind it was sending off and a free-kick.

"It was crucial decision missed. I thought the Referee did well in the first half and I told him that, but he was poor to say the least in the second half.

"Parkinson is one of the most honest players you will ever meet, and there is no way on earth he would have gone down without it being a foul. It was a crucial decision miss at a crucial time of the season.

"It was clear for everyone to see the determination, effort and commitment right through the team.

"We deserved so much more. Things went against us, but we kept going and going.

"We didn't get the breaks we deserved, and like I said it was a superb performance from the players.

"The boys are really shattered, and to see the other results go how they did it was a knife in the heart."
