Former Saddler retires through injury

Former loaned in midfielder Eric Skora has been forced to retire from football because of injury

After making his fifth Walsall appearance while on loan from Preston, Skora only made one brief outing from the bench during his second spell at Kilmarnock because of the troublesome knee injury.

In his first spell north of the boarder Skora became a hero with the Kilmarnock fans after impressing during a loan spell from Preston in 2004. Killie did not want him to leave but did have sufficient funds to land him on a permanent deal origionally.

In January 2006 he finally made the permanent move and then in May 2007, the 26-year-old penned a two-year extension, despite being injured and not having played for the first team since being back.

Killie assistant Billy Brown told the Daily Record said: "Eric is having to retire from football because of knee problems he has had over the last few years. He has had a series of operations, attempted comebacks and we thought he was going to make it.

"It is a massive blow for us. He is moving back to France to start a new life and everybody at Kilmarnock wishes him all the best."

When he left there was great debate saying should we offer him a move or not. Ultimately we didn't have the funds but because of his record since we must be happy we didn't.

Great player with a class which stood out in his short spell. Had injuries not got a grip you would say he would never have appeared at Bescot and would have graced much bigger stadiums.
