Former Burnley and Blackpool boss takes over the reigns

After five weeks of deciding, Walsall Chairman Jeff Bonser has finally found Richard Money's replacement - his assistant.

After weeks of scouring the world for the best candidates Jeff appointed someone with an office just metres away from his own.

His search criteria of finding an up-coming, young but experienced coach found 55 year old Jimmy Mullen.

At his appointment the Walsall's Chairman said "he has a proven track record and impressed everybody with his knowledge and passion". Mullen is popular with Burnley fans following his double promotion triumph and this is the first time he has made the progression from Assistant - Caretaker - Full manager.

It was certainly not the fans choice and the news has hardly been met with warmth.  After names linked such as Kelly, Allen, Holloway, Morrow and Kinsella to name a few it is hardly surprising.  With such a long recruitment process for an end result of an internal appointment the question must be asked was Mullen our first choice? Did Walsall offer the position elsewhere first? Time will tell.

Either way Walsall now look to plan ahead for next season. With a squad you can count on one hand, our new manager must work some transfer magic and win the crowd's support.
