Five surplus to requirements

Youngsters Kris Taylor, Taiwo Ateino, Joe Broad and Jon Harkness are all expected to leave Bescot within the next month. I suspect if permanent moves can be found then they will leave on those terms but if not they will be shipped out on loan. Merson needs to free up wages to bring in new players and these youngsters are the ones who Merson feels will not progress to the level required.

All four players have recently spent time away from Bescot on loan. Taiwo Ateino has spent the season so far at Kidderminster Harriers. He started the season very brightly, getting amongst the goals but then his performances dropped and as a reult he spent the latter months sitting on the bench.

Joe Broad has spent time at Reddich United. He got good reviews and was recalled from his loan spell earlier this season. Given a brief run in the first team the midfielder did nothing to suggest he could be a regular at this level. The player looks tidy and busy but doesnt contribute much at all.

Kris Taylor spent part of last season on loan at Burton Albion. He really impressed as he stepped down a coulple of grades. He generated interest from Paul Simpson's Carlisle but we rejected their bid. Kris became a regular towards the end of last season when his work rate and effort had reached levels we had yet to see from him. It looked like the loan had given him a kick up the backside, as he saw what it was like to drop out of league football. This season however his performances have not been to the same standard. Rumours of fallings out with the gaffer im sure does not help his cause for team selection either. Kris Taylor is one of those frustrating players who you know could be a class performer but just doesnt have the motivation to do so on a regular basis.

Jon Harkness is the surprising departure. The need for left back cover has been apparent and if Bennett leaves the need will only increase. Finally given a chance on Monday at Bristol City Harkness was played out of position on the left wing - clearly not a position the player was ever going to look comfortable in. I would like to see him join a league club on loan so he can get league experience so he can return and compete for a first team place in the future.

The player through the exit door is Daryl Taylor who is expected to rejoin Conference side Hereford United in a bid to toughen him up.  A similar deal was arranged at the end of last season but the player returned after picking up a injury that kept him out the game for eight months.
