Ex-Walsall keeper keeps clean sheet in PREMIERSHIP!

Last updated : 12 February 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
No not Jimmy Walker or Joe Murphy!! The Ex- Walsall keeper to keep a clean sheet in the Premiership was one of his many replacements - John Ruddy.

Ruddy came on as a 10th minute substitute as Everton keeper Iain Turner was sent off for handball out of his area in the 1-0 win against Blackburn Rovers.

Ruddy impressed during his time at Bescot. His young age and lack of experienced was blamed as the reasons for him not having his loan deal extended. Paul Merson decided to recruit the older, more experienced and more vocal Joe Murphy as a replacement for the long term injured Andy Oakes after Ruddy put in a poor performance in the 3-1 loss at Huddersfield.

Merson acknowleged that the keeper would have a bright future ahead of him. But i dont think anyone would have imagined him becoming a Premiership keeper this season!! Injuries to Nigel Martyn and Richard Wright along with the sending off of Iain Turner has ensured that the fourth choice keeper Ruddy tasted his first experience of first team Premiership football.
