Ex-Walsall and Wolverhampton Wanderers coach joins New Zealand Knights back room staff

New Zealand Knights have appointed Kevin O'Leary as Fitness Trainer and Goalkeeping Coach.

O'Leary was previously a member of Colin Lee's Walsall and Wolves backroom set up. The New Zealander left his Physio position at Walsall in 2003 to return to his home land where he took up a position of Manager of National Development with New Zealand Soccer. He has linked up with ex Walsall and Wolves players Darren Bazeley and Neil Emblen.

O Leary said β€œIt made perfect sense to take on the goalkeeping role at the Knights given my experience at Walsall and Wolves. During my time at both clubs I became directly involved in working with the keepers such as Jimmy Walker (Walsall), Mike Stowell, Michael Oakes and England U21 keeper Matt Murray (all Wolves). At Wolves the legendary Peter Bonnetti was employed part time to work with the keepers and he brought me in to continue that work when he was not available, he was a great coach for me as well as the players.”

The New Zealand Knights have also announced the signing of former Scottish International Scott Gemmil amongst others as they bid to become more competitive in the coming season, after finishing rock bottom last time round.

The coming seasons fixture lists have been announced and the Knights will play 5 of their first 6 games at their North Harbour Stadium.
