Ex-Saddler set to return

Rumours are building that Craig Pead is set to complete a free transfer to Walsall.

With news stories appearing in the press and whisper from within the club, this signing could be made this week.

Despite suffering cruciate damage early in his Brentford career, Pead battled back to re-gain his League Two 'Team of the Year' place for the second successive season. It is believed he has been made available on a free transfer after being unable to settle in the London area.

Since securing his release this summer our title winner had been all set to join Staffordshire neighbours Port Vale. However Pead has now decided to cancel his pre-contract agreement and it is believed will  this is to sign for Jimmy Mullen's Men.

Just how Pead will fit into next season's side is an interesting question. He has been replaced at right back by the excellent Rhys Weston who missed out to Anthony Gerrard in our 'Player of the Season' vote. While we now also have  the very promising back up in the form of Richard Taundry.

Pead also can play centre midfield but has been hit and miss when played further forward. This signing would be an indication our new manager has identified we need to build a larger squad at the club and is signing a player who we know well, and know can cover a variety of positions.
