Exeter manager Paul Tisdale aftermatch reaction was one of shock: "I was very pleased with our performance. I would have been disappointed with a draw let alone a 3-0 defeat.

"We played well in the first half but then had a man sent off in the second half and although we continued to push forward, Walsall might have got a fourth goal on the break, which always happens when you're down to 10 men.

"Our fans (774 among a crowd of 4,063) appreciated the way we continued to push forward and they applauded the lads off at the end."
