Clayton in Honduras

Clayton Ince linked up with the Trinidad squad light last night ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Honduras on 5th September.

Coach Russell Latapy, the technical staff and 11 local-based players left the Piarco International Airport yesterday morning and met the overseas pros in Miami where the full contingent travelled to Honduras.

Fulham striker Bobby Zamora has been named in the squad but is expected to undergo a fitness test before deciding whether to join the team. Bolton Wanderers defender Jlloyd Samuel is also in the squad alongside the other overseas players including Sunderland's Carlos Edwards and Kenwyne Jones, Hamilton defender Marvin Andrews, Wrexham's Silvio Spann, LA Galaxy midfielder Chris Birchall, San Jose Earthquakes forward Cornell Glen, Wigan striker Jason Scotland and Swansea City's Radanfah Abu Bakr.

Against Honduras Clayton Ince will come up against Inter Milan striker David Suazo who is expected to make his return following a lengthy layoff due to a knee injury. The front man was injured while playing on loan for Portugal's Benfica.

"Fortunately Suazo feels good," Honduras coach Reinaldo Rueda said, "according to what he shows, we'll decide if he plays or not," he added.

This is a MUST win game for Trinidad if they are to qualify for the World Cup.

They are currently bottom of fourth and final CONCACAF qualification stage on goal difference.

Trinidad and Tobago6123711−45

If Trinidad could finish 4th, they would qualify to face the team who finishes 5th in CONMEBOL (South American Zone) Qualification over two legs for a place for the finals in South Afirca. However for this to happen, Trinidad would have to beat both Honduras and USA and hope Mexico or America both dont win a game. Although USA have a +7 goal difference over T+T which will play in their favour.

Qualification is looking unlikely for Trinidad and Tobago but while it is still mathmatically possible, all is still to play for.

Good luck to Clayton and his team!
