Christmas wish comes true for Walsall fans with Byfield signing

Last updated : 17 December 2009 By Andy Van Hagen

Ask a Walsall fan what they'd like for Christmas from a footballing point of view and high on the list would be the contract extension of Darren Byfield.

Well thanks to Byfield's twitter feed, we now know he has extended his stay at the Banks's Stadium by 18 months.

The striker who is known to be a twitter addit announced the news there first, having obviously being delighted to extend his stay in the Midlands with a club close to his heart.

Since his arrival he has made no secret of his delight being back in the Midlands, especially after his recent marriage break-up.  He's let it show on the field too, transforming our start of season, shot shy saddlers into an attack who fighten and finish.  He's shared goals with Troy Deeney and their partnership has both goals and work-rate.

It's a great deal for Walsall as this now puts to bed speculation of rival teams pouncing for Byfield in Jan when his contract was due to come to an end.
