Central defender Matt Carbon returned to competitive action for Saddlers last night as the Reserve Team replaced Sheffield Wednesday at the top of the Reserve League with a 2-0 victory at Hillsborough.

Carbon is pushing to make a permanent return to Colin Lee's squad after taking a break from the game in the summer and started the game alongside Ian Roper before being replaced by Daniel Caines after 65 minutes. Roper played the full-90 minutes as he makes his return to full fitness.

Goals from Steve Corica and Matt Fryatt helped the team to maintain their strong start to the season. Corica gave Saddlers the lead on 22 minutes when he headed home Bazeley's cross at the back post.

Minutes later the lead was doubled when Fryatt hit a strong shot past the goalkeeper to score his 5th Reserve League goal in 5 games.
