Brazilian On Trial

Walsall boss Paul Merson was impressed with what he saw of the Brazilian striker during a trial spell whilst he was at Portsmouth and has invited the player for trials at The Bescot.

"It takes a lot to impress me but Ruben did. He was quite special but he could not get a work permit," Merson told the Express and Star newspaper.

"He has now solved that problem by qualifying for an Italian passport.

"He is keen to come to England. He paid his own air fare and can't wait to get cracking.

"If we see the same player we did at Portsmouth then we might have a real talent on our hands."
