Merson was contacted by Megson in the week as he enquired what fee we would be asking for the Nottingham born defender. Merson gave his price (which he describes as a very good price).
Merson does not want to lose Bennett but the defender has been stalling on a new contract on the advice of his agent. This leaves Walsall no choice but to cash in.
It is expected that the deal will go through on Monday. In the mean time Merson will be hoping Bennett will give him a commited performance in the FA Cup on Saturday. A game which is likely to be Bennetts final game in a Walsall Shirt.
