This weeks press has reported the 22-year-old is set to join Reading from cash-strapped Southampton in the summer. Surman is far from keen on dropping down to League One again next season, where he has already played for Walsall and Bournemouth.
Surman has remained very loyal to 'the Saints' but League One football will be the deciding factor in a transfer away from St.Marys.
Martin O'Neill is a known admirer of Surman and wants to add the left footed midfielder to his squad at Villa Park as he looks to learn from the lessons of having a tiny squad this season.
