Any Truth in the Ireland-Staunton link?

Paul Merson insists he nor Steve Staunton have recieved any contact from the FAI regarding the vacant managers position of which Staunton has now become bookmakers favourite to land.

It seems Staunton is set to start on Friday night as Walsall struggle with injuries prior to the trip to the Valleys.

This is either the truth or Merson is hoping to focus Stauntons mind on the task of guiding Walsall into the second round of the FA Cup and avoid a repeat of last years embarrassment as we lost away to non league minnows.

Developments are bound to be made next week as a decision becomes nearer but at the moment Stauntons priority is to give 100% to the Walsall cause.
