Antee and Ishe going on holidays!!

Last updated : 04 May 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Anthony Gerrard has scooped the Walsall Player of the Season 2005/6 title in his first full season as a first team footballer.

Gerrard won the vote by an amazing 51.8%, with a total of 61.9%. That is certainly an over whelming majority that any local goverment candidate would be praying for in today's local elections.

Gerrard wins a seven night holiday for two, flights and accomodation to the south coast of Spain.

Over the course of the season Gerrard has had a good campaign despite April's dip in form. I think it is easy to forget his form prior to this because of our relegation but lets not. Remember in Anthony we have a player that has always given 100% throughout the season which unfortuntely not many of our 50 odd players can say they have too. So Congratulations Anthony G.

In second place was Ian Roper with 10.1% and third went to Simon Osborn with 6.6%.

With no mention of Matty Fryatt and Jorge Leitao it seems that this might not have been the fairest of polls and that a number of votes were 'lost' in the process? Quite how a team relegated with the current third worst defensive record in the league can have two central defenders pick up 72% of the vote quite honestly baffles me despite a worthy winner being chosen

In the young player of the season vote Ishmel Demontagnac won the honour and he recieves a European City break, after establishing himself in the first team this season.

His Walsall career started off with a bang and it is for that reason he has been selected by the Walsall fans.  Next season we should expect a more disciplined Ishmel under the new regime as he looks to secure a longer term deal with the club.  This season Ishmel represented England at under 19's level.  A great achievement by a Walsall player
