A look at the league table

A look at the League One table is not a pretty sight after Friday nights game. Going into this afternoons game against Scunthorpe, Walsall are only being kept out of the relegation zone by goal difference (+1 over Bristol City). We dropped a place overnight because managerless Hartlepool beat Chesterfield 1-0. Chesterfield went in to the game enjoying a 15 match unbeaten run.

Everyone thought todays game with Scunthorpe was important, but now it's vital. All the highlighted teams are easily catchable as long as Walsall start picking up points now. With our terrible away record extra pressure is now placed on picking up home wins. Tuesday night sees a long away trip to Colchester, a game where even the most optimistic Walsall fan could not firmly believe we will pick up points.

Walsall will be hoping to start their life as a managerless team in a similar fashion to Hartlepool. One win wont make a difference because regular points are needed but a higher league position will make the team look a more attractable proposition for a incoming manager.
