£380,000 down the drain

Last updated : 27 July 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Jeff Bonser has revealled that a total of £380,000 was wasted on loan signings last season. Yes that's right £380,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He admitted in the Evening Mail that "drastic mistakes" were made in the funding of ELEVEN loan players. He stated "drastic mistakes were made on the football side over the last three years"

The £380,000 was actually MORE than the £350,000 the club recieved for Matty Fryatt. So we lost Matty Fryatt and brought in players who were sub standard. You have to ask - What did Scott Fitzgerald, Simon Gillett and even Mads Timm actually contribute!?

All monies spent on loaning players is ALL DEAD MONEY. There is no investment in the future OR team building. Once the loans are over players return to their parent clubs.

From one angle you have to say Bonser backed his manager and acted with the intention to improve the sides fortunes. But the man he entrusted wasn't caplable of managing a football club. Any joker can say sign this player or that player, but a Chairman must look to control the finances. The time must surely come to question the value of the expenditure and the need for yet another loan signing. If not from the Chairman then the accountant or someone?

The other consideration is that this figure DOES NOT include transfers such as the signing of Andrew Barrowman, Paul Devlin and such like.

Regarding future loan activity Bonser said " From now on we'll look at loans as what they should be - an emergency option. The only exception is an up-and-coming player from a Premiership club on a longer term loan". He refused to knock the players but he did question the affinity of loan players in general.

Good to see the club have learnt the lesson, but look at the price we have paid in finding out - £380,000 and a relegation. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY
