Welcome to the Bantams

On Saturday we extend a warm welcome Bradford City. It is a game that both teams would like to win as we both have unrealistic ambitions of reaching the play offs. Just five points and two places seperate the teams.

Bradford has a certain appeal. The Bradford and Bingley, Pulse stadium, Valley Parade (delete as applicable) is one of those places that draws you back time and time again (not forgetting of course the fantastic curry houses and sex shops - although i can't vouch for the latter!)

This grand stadium is built into a hillside and towers over the 1970s retail outlets below and is rather strangely surrounded by old cottage style back to backs on the opposite flank. It dominates its entire surroundings and draws a nod of appreciation from yours truly on each visit.

Unfortunately the game is taking place at Fortress Bescot which just doesn't compare. At best, all we can offer our visitors is a Happy Meal or a shopping trip to Matalan. Sorry chaps.

This is the fourth consecutive season that the teams have met. It would be fair to say that the Bantams were in desperate trouble last season both on and off the pitch. Although Walsall's situation was nowhere near as critical we both managed the short trip into League One.

Surprisingly Bradford took to the lower leagues much better than ourselves and at one point looked like a good bet for a play off place. Unfortunately the Yorkshire men have lost their way of late losing 3 out of their last 4 including that rather embarrassing home hammering by Franchise.

They are certainly a dangerous outfit. Up front they have that proverbial pain in the backside Windass (18 goals to date) and the ageless Wetherall who seems to enjoy scoring against the Saddlers. As a side issue, was it Wetherall who scored for Leeds against us at Bescot many years back?

This one should be a tight affair but hopefully more entertaining than our last home bore draw.

Mister Happy's prediction:

Saddlers 1 Bantams 1
