Ricketts, who featured for his new club Vs Walsall on Saturday, made his only England appearance in a friendly against Netherlands, leading up to World Cup 2002. He was replaced at half time and never seen again on such a stage.
His club career back then was looking promising, and he was the first player in 40 years to represent England while playing for Bolton, but after his international outing a string of clubs, a nose dive and a couple of returns to where it all began - Walsall FC have now seen him fall to being a 'unfit' journeyman rather than being seen as one of the best in the country. Ricketts has undoubted talent, Walsall fans saw that last season, but we also saw him being suspended for a quarter of the season, injuries and a questionable motivation and work ethic. It could have been so different, he could have used his 'home' as a place to resurrect his career, instead it's shown his level.
