Having been picked for England U21 a few days after leaving Walsall, Fox was named in Scotland's last squad to face Japan, but withdrew because of injury. Now recoverd he has been recalled up to George Burley's squad.
An article in 'The Herald' Terry Butcher recalls admiring the 23-year-old during his younger days at Everton, Walsall and Coventry City.
Fox has a Scottish grandparent and left Everton to spend an 11 game loan at Stranraer. It now seems our former left back could become a key part of Scotland's international future.
With Fox being English born and an England U21 international Butcher, when asked if the change in eligibility rules sat comfortably with him he said: "It's just a shame I didn't have younger sons as they would have been able to play for Scotland given their time here. I'll let George sort that one out in terms of who does or doesn't play for us - I'll just deal with the players presented to us in the squad.
"But when you look at people like Fox, I'm delighted to have him. I saw him when I was down in England although he didn't play at left-back, but one up in left midfield. He's got a fantastic left foot. We've seen at Celtic how he's got a great delivery going forward.
"When you consider modern full-backs, that's what you want from them. They virtually play as midfielders now, rather than defenders. It's actually very exciting. So long as the desire is there to play for Scotland, I'm happy to see these players picked. That's the main thing.
