The News of the World is reporting former Saddler, now Wigan manager, Roberto Martinez is weighing up offering Leicester City £3 million for former team mate Matty Fryatt.

Martinez knows Fryatt, 23, from their time together at Bescot during the Championship years.  But it is his goal return which attracts Martinez.  Fryatt scored 32 goals last season as the Foxes won promotion to the Championship and is top scorer again this term with 12 so far.

Martinez will face competition to get the striker, not just from his current employers who may not be willing sellers. Wolves are also known to be keen on him but City boss Nigel Pearson sees Fryatt as vital to their promotion push and has spoken of his desire to keep hold of him.

Sunderland, whose manager Steve Bruce was at Birmingham when Fryatt was making his emergence in WS1 has also long been linked with a move.

As part of any deal Walsall will be entitled to a percentage of any profit Leicester make on him.
