Three-times-a-Saddler Michael Ricketts has been released by Tranmere Rovers. Described as by 'mutual consent', Ricketts struggled at Prenton Park appearing in just 8 appearances out of a possible 27 since his move in the summer.
Manager Les Parry told his club's official website www.tranmererovers.co.uk: "Michael's chances of starting matches here have been restricted by the form of Ian Thomas-Moore, Craig Curran, Terry Gornell and Chris Shuker. At this stage of his career Michael felt that he needed to play regular first team football so we've decided to give him the chance to join another club where he will get an opportunity to play.
Quite where the next step of his career will take him remains to be seen. Stockport County had him on trial pre-season and passed up the opportunity of signing him because of his fitness levels. With 11 clubs in 10 years, Ricketts needs to find a club where he can produce the form we all know he is caplable of.
In his last stint at Walsall when fit and available to play, his 17 goals from 43 starts was a fantastic return. However 3 red cards and 8 yellows on top of injuries meant he missed one quarter of last season suspended and a large proportion on the treatment table.
