Paul Smith back in professional football

Last updated : 06 February 2007 By Andy Van Hagen
Ex-Walsall midfielder Paul Smith has re-surfaced and has secured a move to Torquay United. He has signed a contract that will see him stay at the club currently bottom of the League ladder, until the summer.

After signing for Walsall at the start of last season, he never moved to the area and subsequently the long commute from Kent took its toll. This sparked a series of events that maybe gave the player regrets about his non-commital Walsall stay.

He returned to his former club Gillingham on loan with the promise of a deal in the January transfer window. After a change of manager, the move never materialised and Smith eventually linked up with Dennis Wise at Swindon Town. Having made a decent start, he then suffered a ankle injury which limited his appearances thereafter, ironically this occured in a match with his former employers Gillingham.

Since then Smith linked up with AFC Sudbury who he made a single appearance before training with a number of non-league sides.

He looks set to be managed at Plainmoor by Ex-Walsall manager Colin Lee who is hot favourite to replace Lubos Kubik and Miroslaw Nowicki who left the club this week after agreeing their position had become untenable.
