New Zealand Knights Are No More, Where Are Our Old Boys?

After New Zealand Knights surrendered their A-League Licence to be replaced by Wellington, a number of ex-Saddlers have had to search for new clubs and careers.

New Zealand Knights captain Darren Bazeley has recently been appointed Waitakere area coach for United Soccer 1 and it is expected he will turn out for Waitakere United. The ex-Saddler has recently applied for residency and continues to dabble with radio commentary.

Neil Emblen has been playing for Waitakere City in the Northern League Premier Division but the 35-year-old looked likely to join Puerto Rico Islanders in June. He played two pre-season games for them but was deemed too expensive to sign for the entire season because of the cost of relocating his family. He's recieved offers from Waitakere United, Auckland City and Waikato so any of these could materialise over the coming weeks. Emblen has a real estate licence but can't practise until he gains New Zealand residency, which he intends to seek in July.

Former Walsall goalkeeper Mark Paston became the first signing for the new franchise Wellington Phoenix. He has signed a two year deal with the club.
