Baird's old international manager Laurie Sanchez has made no secret of his desire to take the player to the Craven Cottage. It is believed he is about to make a second attempt to secure his signiture, but has warned the Championship club he will not pay over the odds.
Baird cleaned up at the Saints end of season presentation night, winning fans player of the season, player's player and Goal of the season.
In September 2003 Baird was signed by Colin Lee on loan. He impressed during his spell but was unlucky to be red carded twice. His first red card, awarded at Sunderland was taken away by the football league panel.
