Former Saddler takes big award

Former Walsall striker Matty Fryatt landed another honour last night when he was named Coca-Cola League One Player of the Year at the Football League Awards in London.

Fryatt beat fellow Bristol Rovers hot shot Rickie Lambert and Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph to take the award.

The 23-year-old striker said: "I am obviously delighted to receive the award. It has been a great season for me to date but it won't mean anything unless we achieve our goal of promotion.I don't see this as an individual award. It reflects on the club as a whole and I was just simply there to pick it up on everyone's behalf - and that goes for the fans, players and staff."Click here!

Fryatt's goal-scoring exploits have fired Leicester's drive to the top of League One. He has hit 23 League and four FA Cup goals to put a couple of frustrating seasons behind him.

This is the third time this season Fryatt has scooped an award. He took the Powerade League One player-of-the-month award for December, a month in which he scored back-to-back hat-tricks; and was also the winner of the PFA fans' player of the month in February.
