Former Saddler gains first managerial post

Last updated : 30 June 2007 By Andy Van Hagen
Macclesfield Town have appointed former Saddler Ian Brightwell as their new manager. He has the task of succeeding Paul Ince, who jumped ship to League Two rivals Milton Keynes Dons.

Brightwell, 39, signed a two-year contract at Moss Rose, and will be assisted by former Scotland star Asa Hartford. Although this is his first post as manager he joined Macclesfield as reserve team boss in July 2004, he also had a breif spell as caretaker manager last season before Ince was appointed as Brian Horton's full time successor. Brightwell assisted Paul Ince's great escape effort last season and enters the job with three years of League Two coaching experience.
