Ex-Saddler returns from Canada for League Two youth job

Wayne Evans playing in Walsall's FA Cup tie at Old TraffordEx-Saddler Wayne Evans has been appointed as Shrewsbury Town's Youth Centre of Excellence Manager.

Evans, who also had spells with Rochdale, Kidderminster and Welshpool in his playing career will work alongside Head of Youth David Hughes.

David Hughes told the Shropshire Star “Wayne is an excellent appointment with local knowledge and experience in the game and is fully qualified,”

“It bolsters the set-up and allows us to help guide the youth policy in the way that we want.

“Together we will be looking to get the structure beneath the youth team right to try and ensure that we are the first port of call in Shropshire for any talented youngsters.”


Evans has just returned to the UK following a spell in Canada where he was technical director for the Valley District Soccer Association (VDSA).  There he implemented soccer programming focusing on player and coach development for all 16 clubs within the VDSA at the Mini, Tier 2 and Tier 1 levels. He holds a Diploma in Health and Fitness with Sports Psychology and holds six separate coaching qualifications.
