Ex-Saddler leaves Swansea

Last updated : 30 May 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Roberto Martinez has been released from Swansea City. After his release manager Kenny Jackett said the midfielder was surplus to requirements. "Central midfield is an area I'll be looking at this summer. We brought Darren Way in back in January but it's a position I'll be aiming to strengthen again. Roberto has played a lot of games during my time here and I thank him for everything he has done". Martinez was captain during his time with the Welsh side.

In August, Martinez scored a cracker for Swansea in their 5-2 win at the Bescot Stadium. He made 6 appearances in a Walsall shirt (5 as substitute) in August 2002 to January 2003. He was sent off in his final appearance.
