ex-Saddler joins Tranmere

Last updated : 08 July 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Chris Shuker is set to leave recently promoted Championship side Barnsley, to sign for Ronnie Moores Tranmere Rovers.

The pacey little winger has passed a medical over the weekend and is poised to pen a deal with the League One club.

Since leaving Walsall as a loaned player in our Championship years, Shuker returned to Maine Road. He then had loan spells at Rochdale and Hartlepool United. After being shown the door at Manchester City he signed for Barnsley. This proved to be a move that for the first time in his career provided the player with a sustained period of first team football. He rewarded Barnsley for their faith in his ability by registering 18 goals in 108 starts and 9 substitute appearances.

Shuker is a tricky player at League One level. Something that any Saddler who was in the travelling contingent to Oakwell last season would have seen first hand.
