Ex-Walsall player-coach Steve Staunton has expressed his interest in the vacant managerial role at Rotherham United.

The 40-year-old has not managed outright since leaving his post as Republic of Ireland boss in 2007, but believes he is the right man to lead The Millers after Mark Robins' departure to Barnsley, which is expected to go through before the weekend.

Following 'Stans' international post he assisted Gary McAllister at Elland Road after Dennis Wise left for Newcastle. Leaving with the McAllister, Staunton has since been scouting for Wolves and helping out with their U16 side.

Staunton has been monitoring League One and Two, believing that is the ideal stage for him to start his club management career, given the chance and has highlighted if given the chance he would utilise the loan market to drive success in the lower leagues.

Ronnie Moore remains favourite for 'The Millers' which would be a popular return for the man who was sacked by Tranmere to make way for John Barnes at the end of last season.
