He joined the Priestfield club from Sunderland in the summer of 2004 on a two-year contract. The Gills striker was the club's top scorer last season with 14 goals in all competitions - and despite the Ronnie Jepson's efforts to keep him at Priestfield, Byfield opted for The New Den instead.
Byfield scored the winning goal for Walsall in the 3-2 Play-off victory over Reading.
