Albion look to bring Roper back to the Midlands

Last updated : 20 June 2009 By Andy Van Hagen
Burton Albion boss Paul Peschisolido has revealed his desire to sign Luton Town's defender Ian Roper. 'Ropes' is one of his top transfer targets as he looks to fill the gap made by Jake Buxton after he followed Nigel Clough to Derby County

Roper, 32, played over 300 games for Walsall before joining Luton last season. He played 24 times for them as they tried the imposible and achieve survival after their massive points deduction. Roper is believed to be looking for a return to the Football League after Luton's relegation.

Peschisolido said: "Ian is the type of defender we are looking for, very strong in the air".

"I have spoken to him, but it is early days yet and there is another candidate we have in mind."

If successful in their bid, Roper will link up with a fammiliar face in Paul Boertein in 'The Brewers' defence
