Wycombe interested in Mansfield pair

Carling Cup semi-finalists Wycombe are set to launch a bid for Mansfield duo Giles Coke and Alex Baptiste. Having reached the Carling Cup semi-final where they are about to play Chelsea over two legs, money is available.

The move could set off a transfer scramble because 20 year old midfielder Coke, is also a target for Northampton and also attracted a £50,000 bid from Wolves earlier in the season. Defender Baptiste, has also been linked to Norwich and local rivals Nottingham Forest.

Defender Baptiste, 20, and midfielder Coke are both out of contract at the end of the season. Mansfield could sell now or run the risk of losing the pair for a compensation package decided by an FA committe. Both are have risen through the Mansfield youth system so they will be entitled to a fee if the players leave to join another club in England at the end of their contracts.
