U's sign Premiership midfielder to face Saddlers

Colchester United have signed West Ham youngster Josh Payne on a one-month loan deal.

Payne, 18, will go straight into the U's squad for Saturday's visit of Walsall and it looks likely he could be in line for an immediate start with Kem Izzet being doubtful with flu. The club do however have other options including Antony Wordsworth and David Fox.

Having made 13 appearances for Cheltenham Town last season on loan, Payne has made one start and two substitute appearances for the Hammers, and has made the matchday squad on a numerous occassions.
