Two trips to the Cheltenham!?

Bristol Rovers will use Cheltenham Town's Whaddon Road ground next season while their ground undergoes re-development. They will make the switch around January 2008 which will allow work to begin on a new 18,500 capacity facility.

The Pirates had considered ground sharing with Swindon but this was deemed unsuitable after objections from both sets of supporters. Playing at Whaddon Road means Rovers have opted to play their last nine or 10 games of the 2007/8 campaign, 40 miles away up the M5. To compensate supporters, Rovers are expected to offer cheaper half season tickets and subsidised travel.

The move still has still to be given the seal of approval by the Football League but this is expected to be a formality. Here's hoping Walsall will be given a 2008 'away' fixture with Rovers, enabling us to save 80 miles and enjoy the astmosphere of the 7,800 Whaddon Road.
