He said: "The way the game has changed means players have to keep themselves fit over the summer.
"A few years ago you used pre-season to get fit but nowadays you have got to be fit for pre-season and then kick on for the start of the season.
"I go to the gym most days and we are supervised two days a week at the club by Les Parry [physio]."
