| Rochdale crushed promotion hopefuls Stockport County at Edgeley Park in an amazing game that contained nine goals. The visitors got themselves off to a dream start when they stormed into a four-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes. It was ex-Stockport loan striker Glenn Murray who shocked the hosts first. He skipped past both Gareth Owen and Ashley Williams before burying a sweet low drive into the corner. It got even better for the visitors just six minutes later, when defender Alan Goodall rose highest to head home Adam Rundle's inswinging corner-kick. On 14 minutes there was a penalty kick which enabled the visitors to go three up. Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey spilled a simple cross and then tripped Murray as he tried to gather the loose ball. Rundle made no mistake from the spot. Surely it couldn't get any worse for the automatic promotion-chasing hosts, but it did on 17 minutes. Rundle crossed from the left and Ben Muirhead fired home, via a slight deflection, from ten yards. Stockport had been all over the place, but after finally settling for a short spell, they grabbed themselves a goal on 32 minutes. Recalled skipper Tony Dinning crossed and Anthony Elding nodded a header over Dale keeper Matthew Gilks. The County fightback was truly back on three minutes later when Elding crossed for Liam Dickinson to tap home from six yards. However, less than a minute after the restart Rochdale fans breathed a sigh of relief when Murray nodded down and Muirhead crashed home from 12 yards to make it 5-2. On 53 minutes it was surely game over when Murray glanced in another Rundle corner to make it 6-2. Sub Chris Dagnall completed a dream victory for Dale on 89 minutes, making the final score an incredible 7-2 to the visitors. |
